Hog Happenin’ Bar-B-Que Cookoff
The Hog Happenin’ Barbeque Cook-off, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, will be divided into two categories: professional and amateur. Both classes will compete to be named the best in pulled pork, brisket, pork ribs, and chicken while also vying for more than $8,000 in total prize money. In addition, many teams will also choose to show off their less traditional barbeque skills in the ‘Anything But’ and dessert competitions on Friday night. Traditionally, prizes have included a plaque along with the monetary supplement; however, in honor of the event’s fifteenth anniversary year, first through third place winners in each category will receive an original Catawba Valley Pottery style piece of artwork in the form of a pig. Pig sizes will vary according to prize rank. Each pottery piece is a handcrafted original, made locally here in Lincolnton.
